20150208 Acrylic Sump

One company that stood out in the aquarium show was ZeroEdge Aquariums. Below is an example of the type of aquariums they produce. This captured my attention because this is not the first time I have seen a tank like this- the first time was actually the Giant clam display at the Waikiki Aquarium!
ZeroEdge Aquarium resembles an infinity pool with water flowing off the edge.
This Zero Edge Tank here features the water flows off the side of tank.
And below was the photo I took of the Zero Edge tank at the Waikiki Aquarium. A Tank like this in your house would likely cost well over $6,000. But the view is unmatched!

Another very interesting line of product they offer is this full functioning acrylic sump with built in refugium. Unfortunately they aren't cheap either, even though they look fabulous if you have the sump easily accessible as part of display.

20141024 Huge Reef Tank Systems

While going through my list of posts I accidentally found an old draft what I was going to post regarding the Waikiki Aquarium, but totally forgot about it!

I think one of the biggest eye openers was the aquarium's main South Pacific system housing various fish that most aquarists would consider "not reef safe" yet none of them are picking on the corals or the giant clams. This is when I realized when it comes to keeping these "non reef safe" fish, the volume and feeding regimen really are the keys to success and having them leave the corals alone. The photos above shows butterfly fish, among others not in this photo that are known to be nipping corals in home aquarium, yet you can clearly see the SPS are growing very well in this tank!

This tank, once again, is a very large system and you can see it houses many what we would consider "aggressive towards conspecific" fish together!
